Newsflash…Google+ Rolls Out Design Changes

Table of Contents

Google+ has a few brand new design changes for personal profiles and pages. These include a “local” review tab, added cards in the ‘About' section and larger cover photos for both the personal profiles and the pages. Is this a preemptive strike based on Facebook's big announcement today? There seems to be a lot of competition back and forth between these two ‘biggees'. It can be a tough job to keep up with the Jones' <smile>.

Google+ made the announcement in a Google+ post on Wednesday and the big question at hand is what will these new features look like?

There will be a new tab for local reviews. What this means is that in addition to your photos, +1's and YouTube videos there will also be a space foro your Local reviews. Google+ users will be able to highlight favorite locations or you can choose to hide this tab completely. You will be able to change this up through the setting's options on the platform. This feeds into Google's efforts to try to expand the local search usage. Local search helps build out the word of mouth referral system that many today are using to make informed buying decisions.

The ‘About' tab will have separate cards that will include categories like Story, Places, Links, etc. You will be able to edit all through a prominently displayed edit link.

Google+ Profiles and Pages can now display a much larger branded cover photo. The size can be up to 2120px by 1192px. Lots of branding room…YAHOO!

  1. I agree, Frank…competition between these two is going to result in stronger platforms for the end user for sure.

  2. Definitely not dead…in fact, I think it has the potential to impact your business, long term, than any of the other platforms.
